Wallace Community College Selma Hosts Inaugural Aviation Summer Camp

Selma, AL – July 29, 2024 – Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) successfully launched its first Aviation Summer Camp from July 8th through July 11th, providing a unique opportunity for local middle and high school students to explore exciting career opportunities in the aviation industry.

The four-day camp was designed to kindle students' passion for aviation through a hands-on, immersive experience. The program was a blend of education, practical activities, and inspiring field trips, including:

Career Opportunities Discussion: Students engaged in informative sessions about various career paths within the aviation industry, learning from experienced professionals and industry experts.

Flight Simulators: Participants had the chance to operate flight simulators, gaining a realistic feel of piloting an aircraft and understanding the technicalities involved.

Coding and Flying Drones: The camp introduced students to coding and drone technology basics, allowing them to experience the thrill of controlling and flying drones.

Field Trips: To broaden their exposure, students visited the Montgomery Airport, the Tuskegee Airmen Museum, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. These trips provided an in-depth look at aviation history, technological advancements, and the pivotal role of aviation in various sectors.

Dr. James Mitchell, President of Wallace Community College Selma, expressed his enthusiasm about the camp's success: "We are delighted to have hosted our first Aviation Summer Camp and to see the excitement and curiosity it sparked in our students.
